Southern Trust and DNA Mining
Edition label: 2026-10
Definition: Southern Trust was an Epstein company1 that Whitney Webb reports netted him $200 million.2 Epstein told the U.S. Virgin Islands Economic Development Commission (EDC) that it would offer genetic-data analysis services;3 the U.S. Virgin Islands later alleged in court that it appeared to have no clients and performed no visible informatics services.4 Webb frames the planned project as data-intelligence infrastructure.5
Overview
Whitney Webb (One Nation Under Blackmail, vol. 2, pp. 370–371) reports that Southern Trust sought to gather genetic data,6 build a search engine for disease links,7 and provide biomedical and financial consulting,8 and that the company netted Epstein $200 million in a few years.9 The source describes proceeds to Epstein, not funding he put into the project.10
Whitney Webb’s Intelligence-Data Framing
She frames Southern Trust as a data-collection project with intelligence applications:11
Potential applications of a comprehensive human DNA database raise distinct questions: - Identification: DNA can identify individuals from trace materials, potentially helping identify an individual when suitable DNA profiles, comparison records and confirmatory testing are available.12 - Genealogical intelligence: Appropriate genetic analyses can support inferences about biological relationships, genetic ancestry and possible risks for some health conditions.13 - Leverage: If the database included samples from prominent individuals, the holder would possess highly sensitive personal medical/genetic information.14
In Webb’s framing, Southern Trust’s plans parallel Carbyne911 and Chiliad.15 The cited account describes what the company sought or planned to do, not a demonstrated system operating at massive scale.16
Eugenics Interest
Epstein’s eugenics interest is separately documented.17 Webb, citing press reports, writes that Epstein told friends and scientists he wanted to impregnate women at his Zorro Ranch18 and reportedly sought to “seed the human race with his DNA”;19 Virginia Giuffre has alleged that Epstein and Maxwell asked her to serve as a surrogate.20 An August 2018 email also shows Bryan Bishop sending Epstein a funding plan Epstein had requested for a designer-baby and human-cloning company.21

Open Questions
- Beyond the corporate and proposed-service information in the EDC hearing and the USVI complaint,2223 what do financial and operational records establish about Southern Trust’s activities?
- Were any DNA samples actually collected, and if so, where are those records?
- Did Southern Trust have any connection to Intellectual Ventures (Myhrvold) or other research institutions?
- Does Webb’s Southern Trust reporting go beyond conventional press coverage of Epstein’s eugenics interests, and if so how?
- Did access through the Edge Foundation give Epstein private introductions to, or validation from, specific geneticists or evolutionary biologists in connection with Southern Trust or his eugenics interests?
- Did Webb’s sourcing establish that Southern Trust’s genetic-data framing excluded a eugenics-vanity-project purpose, or is that a contrast the cited passage does not state?
- Did Webb’s sourcing establish that Southern Trust was more than a personal obsession for Epstein, or is that a contrast the cited passage does not state?
- If realized, would the proposed genetic-data and search services have created a significant data-intelligence capability?
