Edge Foundation

Edition label: 2026-10

Definition: The Edge Foundation is a nonprofit intellectual salon1 founded by literary agent John Brockman that organized annual gatherings of scientists, technologists, and other thinkers.2 Whitney Webb reports that Epstein supplied $638,000 of the $857,000 in donations Edge raised from 2001 through 2017,3 about 74%.4

Overview

Edge Foundation hosted the annual “Edge Annual Dinner” and maintained the website edge.org,5 which published responses to annual big-questions.6 The Edge community included Nathan Myhrvold, Linda Stone, Joi Ito, Esther Dyson, and Bill Gates.7

Whitney Webb (One Nation Under Blackmail, Ch. 20) reports that Epstein supplied $638,000 of the $857,000 in donations Edge raised from 2001 through 2017,8 about 74%.9 This gave Epstein several things: 1. Social access: The social world of elite scientists.10 2. Soft authority: As the major donor, Epstein had relationship capital with the scientific community. 3. Recruitment: Access to potential “higher-tier” connections for his network.11 4. Scientific legitimacy: Epstein’s association with Edge gave him credibility as a science philanthropist.

Epstein’s Eugenics Interest

Epstein had a documented interest in eugenics12 and genetic manipulation.13 He reportedly expressed interest in using his New Mexico ranch14 to impregnate women with his sperm to seed the human race.15 This interest overlaps with his funding of Edge (access to geneticists and evolutionary biologists) and his Southern Trust deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) project (DNA banking and mining). Whitney Webb links these threads: she writes that Epstein’s interest in technology ‘appears to have been informed by his obsessions with genetics and eugenics,’ and that he targeted Big Tech leaders ‘via Edge and other means’ to gain access to the data they controlled.16

Aftermath

Webb reports that Epstein stopped donating in 2015, the same year Edge discontinued its annual Billionaires’ Dinner tradition.17
